Hurricane Maria hit Vieques over 7 months ago. In the aftermath we made a commitment to continue our summer ArtCamp program for the children of Vieques. Our fearless leader Sandra Reyes lost her home and personal studio in the category 5 storm that has changed the way we live. Putting her personal tragedy aside Sandra is committed to continuing her work with youth on Vieques. She has been hosting a twice weekly art studio in the plaza that is open to everyone. Sandra has been supplying the free studio with the few personal art supplies that were not destroyed in the storm.
Sandra has been offering a summer art camp program for many years now, she began this camp on her front porch with 5-6 kids in 2009. Over the years art camp has expanded into a two week program with over 25 kids. Volunteers from Vieques join together for two weeks to bring art, education, water sports and more to local children. Businesses offer their services so that the children can experience Vieques in new ways. Even with all the generous help and support we receive from local businesses ArtCamp still needs funds to purchase art supplies, food, water and other items needed for the two week camp. This year we are very behind on our needed goal, as you can imagine our island and its residents are stretched thin. We know there are so many people with Vieques in their hearts, we hope you can help us continue ArtCamp, Vieques se levanta.

We cannot begin to explain all the love and dedication that Sandra puts into ArtCamp. Every year she tries to bring something new and exciting to benefit the local children, and this year ArtCamp is needed more than ever. Any amount helps and we are so thankful for your support.
