As I received my acceptance letter for Berkeley, I thought this was it. This is why we came to the States. The education. For my family and me, this was what we looked forward to. From here on, I thought I could focus and work towards my career. My first semester, I got lost in the crazy environment of Berkeley. Meeting extremely talented and motivated people at Berkeley, that’s when I was challenged. Mainly, the topic of our conversations whenever we would hang out was the Future, and what we wanted to do. In a crazy nation like the States, and a crazy school like Berkeley, how do I bring a true structural revolution? My answer was my community. My community back in Pakistan. My friends and family.
Barazai is a very small town located in northern Punjab in Pakistan. So why did I choose Barazai? I went to school there for 11 years. So I know where these students come from and what I can do to try to help them. Being able to go to school there is a privilege, not the norm since many can’t afford uniforms and books.
Having studied there in Pakistan myself, I have an idea of what I can do to try to help with the education system there. Children there are missing resources and guidance. In order to make it out of the village and go abroad somewhere, kids mainly wait on marriage. That’s their only way out of there, so I decided to provide those resources and guidance for them. I will be visiting the schools there and selecting up to 30 students. Throughout the summer vacation, I will be teaching those kids English and Basic coding skills. Alhumdulillah, now that I have the ability to be able to give back, I want to do this for the kids back there. I want to instill this idea of of if someone like me can do it, you can do it better. Taking in consideration that I cannot provide the equivalent of what I have gotten, but I want to start something. To give Hope. To give opportunity. For me, this is my revolution. How is the talent ever going to come out when they are never given the opportunity, so I am going to try my best to provide them with that opportunity and see what unfolds…
However, none of this can be done without your help. The way you can help me make this happen is by donating whatever you can. I am teaching the students at my own house in Barazai. Since the kids cannot afford to do so themselves, I will be providing books and resources for them. The link to my GoFundMe is attached below.
