My name is Maximilian Panda and I am the Youth Ambassador for Sukarya USA. Sukarya USA is a non-governmental organization that advocates for the rights of women and children in the slums of India. We focus on the health, education, and empowerment of women and children. The part of Sukarya I am most interested in is the Education on Wheels Program.

Education on Wheels is a program that brings school to the slums. Teachers ride to the slums on well-equipped, refurbished buses, which serve as classrooms on wheels. These buses feature essential education-related materials.

The mission of Education on wheels is to educate children living on the streets and in slums so they can be an asset to their families and society. The children are taught knowledge and skills so that they can later attend formal schools to continue their education.

During the last two years, I’ve been working to raise awareness and funds for Sukarya. This summer, I will be going to India and I am so excited to finally see the accomplishments of Education on Wheels first-hand. I will be teaching on the buses, and I hope I can deliver a significant contribution to help the program continue its work. I will personally deliver 100% of the donations directly to Sukarya.
