Hello,
My name is Suhail, I am a 39 year old mom to an active 6 year old. I was diagnosed with Severe Pulmonary Hypertension and Left Heart Failure on July 1st 2018. I had not been feeling well and was going to doctors and being tested for 4 months with no success. On 06.24.18 I went to the emergency room because I was retaining so much fluid that my skin was starting to tear. After hundreds of tests and 5 days in the hospital I was transferred to another hospital for a cardiac catheterization procedure which confirmed my diagnosis of Severe Pulmonary Hypertension.
PH is a rare progressive disease that affects the veins and arteries that supply your lungs with blood and oxygen. Basically, I can't breathe. I have severe shortness of breath which makes it impossible for me to take deep breaths. Oxygen is not reaching my lungs and I have become oxygen dependent.
I have been diagnosed with stage 3 PH which requires aggressive treatment and multiple weekly appointments. Although PH is not curable it is treatable. which means the symptoms can improve with different treatments and therapies. My insurance has denied all the PH medications my doctor orders but I am grateful for various patient assistance programs which have supplied me with a couple of my current meds. My doctor has told me that I will be needing a lung transplant in the future due to the severity of my situation. There are alternative treatments like stem cell regeneration and acupuncture which are very pricey, they can help improve and relieve some symptoms but these are not covered by insurance.
In the last 2 months I have been forced to make a lot of adjustments in my daily life and I still forget at times that I am unable to complete simple tasks. I have gone from taking no medications to 19 pills daily. Taking this many pills changes your body in ways that are unimaginable. I have good days and I have bad days. On the bad days I am physically and emotionally unable to leave my house. This as well as my multiple hospital admissions has caused me to miss a lot of work. I have used up all my vacation and PTO time. I am now averaging 25 hours weekly which makes it impossible to pay monthly bills, doctor's bills, hospital bills, let alone seek alternative treatments.
I am seeking help for past due bills and continued treatments so that my symptoms can improve and I can enjoy a better quality of life.
