Sudden Graduation Expense

Donation protected

Hello, I'm James and am a senior in my final semester of an electrical engineering degree. I have previously done work with my college to assist various other programs including help with their cancer research center.

Back when I was in community college, I had anxiety and depression that was un-medicated due to financial issues at the time and a lack of insurance, leading to many classes becoming too much to handle and needing to be retaken. As a result, I transferred with more than the standard number of hours.

My state imposes a charge on students that go over 140 credit hours for classes attempted, and it only hit me this semester. The statute in place by my state gives a surcharge of 50% on any credit hours going above that limit. The charge wasn't placed on my account until a month into the semester and I wasn't notified of the charge until today.  I received an email that a hold was put on me and that I would not be able to graduate until it was paid in full, a charge of $1113

Due to it being so far into the semester, what financial aide I did receive has been used to cover other school expenses, a used car to replace my previously totaled one with the subsequent gas for my daily commute, and other general life expenses.

I will need the funds to cover this charge, and will be doing what I can to also work towards covering it. Any help will be greatly appreciated as this charge is the difference between me graduating finally or not.
