1st Santa Clara County Coronavirus Victim Fund

A dear aunt, sister, daughter, cousin, friend, and mother, Azar A. passed away on Monday morning (3/9/2020) at the age of 68, victim to a COVID-19 (coronavirus) induced respiratory illness. She was the first person to contract COVID-19 in Santa Clara County, CA without a relevant travel history or contact with a carrier and the first to pass away from COVID-19 in the SF Bay Area. She was initially treated for pneumonia. By the time her infection was confirmed to be COVID-19, it was too late to treat and save her life.

Eldest of three sisters, she was the primary caregiver for her old-aged mother who she lived with the past three decades, sacrificing her career and anything else needed in service to her mom. She also had a very close relationship with her oldest sister with whom she walked one path in faith and spirituality. Out of care, Azar would even go beyond her means to support her sister’s health issues, shopping for groceries so her mother could cook food for her ill sister. We, her family (especially her nephew) will always be greatly indebted to her for this. Azar was a warm, compassionate, understanding, kind-hearted, and caring person who always put others ahead of herself. She was deeply dedicated to her family and always eager to help a friend in need even if just lending an ear. She had a way of making friends with just about anyone she ran into from the mailman she would make rare conversation with to the workers at the Safeway nearby. Somehow, everyone always seemed pleasured to see her time and again. There wasn’t a person she met who couldn’t help but smile seeing her. She truly had a heart of gold. Unconditional love took a new meaning after being with her. Energetic, humorous in humorous ways, and outgoing to the point of self-sacrifice, she was all about making every moment a happy moment even in the lowest of times. She had to make you smile one way or another so everyone in the room could have fun.

She touched so many across the entire family, close friends, and all who she knew around the world. I, her nephew, feel so blessed having had an aunt as loving, caring, and pure-hearted as her. I, her son, could never keep up with her level of affection and will never be loved the same again. We, her family and friends, will always feel her absence and yet, forever knowing the meaning of compassion, love, and care in a new light because of her. Short of a day from her passing and we already miss her dearly - the happy memories with her, the funny inside jokes, and all the little things she would do specifically for each and every one of us.

Given county level public health concerns for COVID-19, it is unclear how many people can attend her services but we are in need of financial support for her funeral service (completed), memorial service and gravestone. We are also in need of financial support for care-taking and monthly expenses for her old-aged mother who she lived with, left behind without a caretaker. Her mother also tested positive for COVID-19 aside from living with heart disease, arthritis, and other conditions. If you are able to help the family in this difficult time, it would make a great difference and be dearly appreciated. All donations will be received and managed as needed by Azar’s only son. On behalf of Azar’s spirit, thank you for reading!
