A year ago, my husband and I enrolled our son, Phillip, in Paul Anderson Youth Home in Vidalia, GA. Like other young people, in order to cope with his circumstances, he chose the path to drugs and alcohol and the lifestyle that went with it. Six years prior, my husband and Phillip's dad, was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease and within 1 1/2 years had Deep Brain Stimulators implanted on both sides of his brain. Still, with the success of the DBS, our lives were changed in the twinkling of an eye. We went from a one income family who was making it comfortably to disability benefits. At a time when Phillip needed his dad the most, my husband just wasn't able to be all that Phillip needed at the time. So, he turned to what eased the pain--or so he thought. His addiction quickly ran to lying, cheating, stealing, and the list goes on. I knew something had to be done when Phillip had stolen drugs which helped to control my husband's tremors from the medicine cabinet and watched as his dad's DBS turned off and went into tremors which appeared to be having a seizure. I also knew that we would not have that much longer before we would be looking at our son in a casket. As he was already 18 years old, I had to press charges against my own son in order to have the leverage to get him to Paul Anderson Youth Home. We had done our research. It is our belief that if Phillip's heart was not right with God, no matter what the program, it would not work. We did not want to put Phillip just anywhere. We wanted somewhere where he would be loved, prayed for, prayed over, and encouraged--as well as disciplined and held accountable for his actions. So, with the recommendation from friends who had gone through the same thing with their son, we began conversations with PAYH. That is to say, that there is a cost. Being inundated with medical bills already, we did not know how we would be able to pay for his placement as insurance would not pay for it. God provided with using money set aside for his college education. When that ran out, his grandmother graciously provided for the past few months. Paul Anderson requires a year in their program with the average stay of 12-18 months. Phillip has been there for 12 months and is targeted to graduate the program in October/November. Due to rapidly changing circumstances and decline in health of his grandmother, we are no longer able to provide the tuition for the remainder of his stay at PAYH. The cost is $2500 per month and the cost to see Phillip through to his graduation is $10,000 in November. The first $2500 is currently due August 3. What we are able to provide is not enough due to the time frame and the unforeseen turn of events which has led to this dilemma. Phillip has made such great progress and we hate to come this far and it be for nothing. His heart has been radically changed and he has plans for continue his educaton in Radiology and hoping to be able to start in the Spring 2018. Would you consider donating to the lasting change for our son, Phillip. Any and all donations are of great value and are greatly appreciated.
