STVM Model UN

From high atop a hill in Akron…St. Vincent-St. Mary students extend their influence globally through participation in the Model United Nations team. Model United Nations began in 2010 as an extra-curricular activity at St. Vincent-St. Mary, and has since grown into a close-knit, highly skilled and widely acclaimed delegation. Model UN exposes participants to different countries, cultures and foreign policies, challenging them to think critically from multiple perspectives about issues involving peace and security, human rights and sustainable development and work together to find global solutions to complex problems.

St. Vincent-St. Mary’s Model UN team competes against other Northeast Ohio high schools in local conferences hosted by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. Additionally, STVM students travel to conferences on the east coast to compete against delegations from all over the world. This year, STVM Model UN traveled to conferences at George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. At the Model United Nations Conference in March, St. Vincent-St. Mary claimed its third consecutive state championship and earned the Best Large Delegation Award. The team finished the season undefeated, a rarity in Model UN competition.

As a testament to their hard work and commitment, the St. Vincent-St. Mary Delegation has earned the right to compete at the upcoming Best Delegate Program at Georgetown University June 26-July 2, 2017. This will be an opportunity for the St. Vincent-St. Mary team and individuals to shine against top competition from around the world.
