My name is Reya Forney, and I have been given an amazing opportunity to be an exchange student through AFS-USA in Latvia for my Senior year of high school. I will be living with a host family in Jurmala, which is a small resort community on the Gulf of Riga. I will be attending a local high school (or "gymnasium" as it's called there) and plan on participating in school activities such as sports and clubs. I am super excited to be a positive student ambassador for Mesquite High and Arizona, and to experience the daily life and rich culture of Latvia!
Following a very competitive application process, I was fortunate to have been awarded scholarships to cover most of my program fees. However, while there, I will be responsible for my day-to-day expenses such as school supplies, personal items, winter clothing (I am from Arizona after all!), and travel in and around Latvia. I am also responsible for travel to and from my departure city of New York, as well as all travel documentation (Passport/Visa).
I will be in Latvia from August 22, 2018 - June 29, 2019, a full school year. I have been saving as much as possible through babysitting and garage sales, but I need your help. Please consider giving to my Study Abroad campaign, any amount no matter how small will help toward my goal. And if you're not able to give now, please consider giving in the future.
I appreciate your consideration, donations, and mostly, your prayers. Please pray for travel safety, protection and safety while I'm in Latvia, smooth transition to life there, and for my family's peace and comfort while I'm away from them.
