Help Debby Study Ayurveda in India

Donativo protegido
My name is Debby Andersen and I am a certified Ayurvedic practitioner and teacher. I have worked with over 200 clients, providing consultations and healing therapies. While I have been able to help many people, I still have a lot to learn in order to be better able to serve others and help them find healing.

I have been accepted to study in the Pune Gurukula Program with Dr. Vasant Lad at the Vasanta Institute of Ayurveda in Pune, India. It is a huge honor to be accepted: Dr. Lad is a world-renown Ayurvedic Doctor who has published 11 books and is widely credited with bringing Ayurveda to the United States in the late 70's. Deepak Chopra has called him “the most significant person galvanizing the movement of Ayurveda in the world.”

I have already spent 2 years and close to $20,000 working and studying in Dr. Lad’s Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico. He is now 75 years old, and this may be one of the last chances to study with him. My goal is to continue my education with Dr. Lad, and bring this knowledge back to my home city, to share with my clients, my students and the community.

The course runs from November 3 through December 14, 2018. It is a rigorous class schedule in an intimate setting, and I am one of only 16 students accepted. With direct faculty guidance, I will also provide care in a free community clinic. This is the analog of a residency, albeit a short one. Nothing could be more valuable to my education than this direct work experience.

I am turning toward you for financial assistance, because I can't do this on my own. As you probably know, I opened a yoga studio, Hamsa, with Courtney Miller Morris last year.  We've put in an enormous amount of sweat, time, money and love into the studio - and it is doing great. But I am in a spot right now where I need your help. Any amount will help and will go towards a continuing education that I will bring back and share with my friends, colleagues, students and clients. You won't be giving just to me, but to your community.

Program Expenses
Here are the costs to complete this course:

$6480 tuition
$100 application fee
$1800 estimated airfare
$160 Indian Tourist Visa
$4000 6 weeks of expenses (my minimum to maintain my apartment, utilities, student loans and fixed monthly bills, while not having income from my practice)

$12,540 Total

About Ayurveda
Ayurveda is perhaps the oldest system of holistic medicine, dating back over 5,000 years. It is based on the premise that the body is naturally inclined toward health and wholeness, and offers therapies for supporting the body’s natural intelligence to heal. It is a consciousness-based and a highly effective, proven approach to health care. In India, becoming an Ayurvedic Doctor is akin to going through 6 years of medical school in the United States. So obviously I still have a lot to learn.
