Media Internship in Aix-en-Provence!

Bonjour! My name is Sierra (some of you may know me as Sterling). I am excited to participate in an 8-week internship and study abroad program in the beautiful, Mediterranean town of Aix-en-Provence, France. The program is through the Institute of American Universities, and is partnered with the University of Mary Washington.
About Me
I’m currently a Theatre and Communications/Digital Studies major at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia and on track to graduate with honors, cum laude in Spring 2022. I have participated in hundreds of verified volunteer hours and will be the first student at my university to enter this specific internship program. Some fun facts about me: I have earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, was elected as a student representative for Theatre, am a captain of UMW's Quidditch team, and have never been outside of the US!
Why do I want to go to France?
As president of two clubs, the summer program is a great opportunity to go abroad before expanding into further leadership responsibilities and starting on my senior projects. I’ve taken French for 9 years and will earn a French minor. Going abroad will help me gain a greater understanding of the language and culture I plan to explore further as a professional in the film industry, which consists of a lot of international networking.
There is also something beautiful about capturing a story in a unique cultural lens. To work with media/theatre productions and help them realize their extraordinary vision would be an honor. By stepping out of my comfort zone and going abroad to intern, I will be able to grow as a developing professional and a personable individual.
How much will it cost?
I’ve been working/saving money and have been awarded some scholarships from my university, though I would be honored to receive your help! The program ($8045), plane ticket (~$800), and some incidentals amounts to around $9545. I am requesting $5000 to help with this cost, and am eternally grateful for any donation!
