<div>As many of you know, budget cuts have been affecting universities all over the country, and the Master of Conference Interpreting at York University (Glendon Campus) has been hit hard. A crucial part of this hybrid master’s is in-person training in a lab with expert interpretation instructors who come in from Europe. This year, that part of the program has suddenly been cut, without the students’ prior knowledge. A whole cohort will thus travel to Toronto in January for in-person instruction… without the expert instructors.

<div>This in-person training is a crucial component of the master’s program, playing a vital role in shaping the skills and know-how of professionals who are critically needed in Canada and around the globe. <div>Comme plusieurs le savent déjà, les compressions budgétaires frappent durement les universités à travers le pays. La maîtrise en interprétation de conférence (MCI) de l’Université York (Campus Glendon) n’a pas été épargnée. Cette maîtrise à l'enseignement hybride repose pourtant sur un élément clé : des séances en présentiel dans un laboratoire, encadrées par des formateurs experts en interprétation venant d’Europe. Cette année, cette composante essentielle du programme a été soudainement supprimée, sans que les étudiant·e·s n’en soient informé·e·s à l’avance. Résultat : toute une cohorte se retrouvera à Toronto en janvier pour une formation en présentiel... sans les spécialistes qui leur enseigneront.
