Hi! We are six students from Emory University who spent a summer studying abroad in the Tibetan Exile Community in India. During our time, we had the opportunity to visit an inspiring place named the Tong Len Charitable Trust. The organization works in local slums to provide resources and healthcare to families, as well as housing and education to children. Unfortunately, a little over a year ago, the Charan Slum, where Tong Len primarily worked, was destroyed by the Indian authorities. Hundreds of families were evicted and displaced. While Tong Len is now limited in resources and space, they still operate a hostel for slum children. They are a beacon of hope in a desperate reality.
We are incredibly touched by this organization and all that it is accomplishing for one of the most vulnerable populations in the world. When we visited these children, they stood in front of us with radiating smiles, sharing their goals of becoming doctors, musicians, artists, and actors. It was truly inspirational and we want to do everything in our power to help them achieve these dreams. That is why we started this campaign. We want to spread their stories and support Tong Len’s mission by raising funds to sponsor at least 20 more kids in the hostel. Every dollar goes directly towards these children’s futures.
