Students fighting COVID-19 in Buffalo

We are students at the University at Buffalo eager to support the healthcare workers of our community during this unprecedented and uncertain time. We have watched as Western New York has become a state hotspot during the COVID-19 pandemic (as of 5/6/2020, Erie County ranks 7th in the state for number of cases and 6th with respect to deaths). In order to help support the incredible efforts of our local medical staff and front line workers as they combat the virus, we are working to build and provide local hospitals with plastic face shields which can be made easily and inexpensively (less than $1.50/shield).

The national shortage of personal protective equipment has resulted in significant demand for protective equipment and strain on the ability to keep staff and patients safe. Within just a few local hospitals alone, as many as 500 face shields are needed per day. Our goal is to help provide some of this need and expand as funding permits. We have already developed a prototype that meets the hospital standards and have agreed to accept.

We are reaching out to the community to help fund our effort to support and bolster the heroic work of our local medical providers.

100% of the funds raised will go to production of the face shields. Any funds remaining after the resolution of the crisis in Western New York will be donated to local charities.
