Student Sympathy Baskets

UPDATES:
11/26: We have surpassed our goal and will be able to provide wonderful, thoughtful sympathy baskets to all of our students at the high school, in addition to their siblings. The counseling department extends our most heartfelt thanks for allowing us to make this happen on such a grand scale. Thank YOU for your support! I will be sure to update with pictures of the baskets before we deliver them before the winter break.
11/25: Since our original goal was reached within just a few hours and people were still eager to make a difference for our students, we have decided to also include younger siblings that attend our middle and elementary schools. If a high school student has younger siblings, we will be creating larger family baskets. Thank you tremendously for the outpouring of support!
Each year, my fellow counselors and I create sympathy baskets for our students that have lost parents from one holiday season to the next. These baskets include comfort items such as blankets, journals, picture frames, family movie passes and dinner gift certificates and serve as a way of letting our students know that they are not alone as they navigate a new normal without their loved one.
Sadly, this year we have 14 students that would benefit from this type of support. As you can imagine, our small counseling staff is finding it difficult to gather the resources that we have in the past and decided that creating a fundraiser would be our best bet at gathering the funds we need to help our students feel connected and cared about.
Once the baskets are created, I will provide pictures before they are hand-delivered to our students, just in time for the holidays. If you have any questions or suggestions for items to include, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Any amount that is collected beyond our goal will be saved for our Sympathy Basket program to use for the 2021-2022 school year.
