Stronger Together: Rally for the Walshes

Mark and Julie Walsh have been fighting health challenges since 2012 when Mark suffered a severe health crisis while on an Indian Princess camp-out with his oldest daughter, Charley. As a result, Mark sustained kidney damage and now endures dialysis 3 times per week and is paralyzed from the waist down. Mark continues to practice law, while dealing with his own health issues.
In 2015, Julie was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and completed chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Julie continued to teach in San Marcos Unified School District during her treatment, and is currently teaching 6th and 7th grade history at Double Peak School in SMUSD. Unfortunately, in 2017, cancer returned to Julie's lung. She again fought back with surgery and chemotherapy. It was at this point that Julie and Mark decided to look into cutting edge alternative treatments in addition to traditional medicine. These treatments were not covered by insurance, but they were willing to spare no expense to ensure Julie would beat this awful disease. Julie and Mark have 4 beautiful children who are counting on them: Charley (14), a freshman at San Marcos High School and Ryan (13), Cassidy (13), and Elizabeth (13) 7th graders at Double Peak School.
This past August, nearing the two-year mark of being "cancer-free", Julie began to have vision issues. Her oncologist ordered an MRI. The next day, Julie received the dreaded phone call, advising her that her stage 4 breast cancer had metastasized to her brain.
Julie will continue to fight this awful disease in every way she can, as she has so much to fight for. Julie and Mark must focus on their 4 children who need their parents, without the additional financial burden that goes along with such serious health issues. These burdens continue to increase, as Mark is only able to practice law 2 days per week as a result of his own health.
