Jessica Dixon is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Eleanor Dixon.
Since May 2018 Gerry has been battling with kidney and liver failure due to a prescription he was given for what was initially diagnosed as Diabetes in April. He has since had five surgeries to correct the damage that has been done. He has had several stints inserted to help drain the bile from his liver and to alleviate the jaundice. In June he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. The long month of May and early June were very difficult, but ultimately it was a blessing, as it lead to the diagnosis of the cancer, which was caught early. In August he started pre-work for chemotherapy, lots of appointments and a few set backs including a blood infection that was life threatening. Just a few days ago, he started his first round of chemotherapy. He is doing 48 hours of straight chemo at home with a few days off between rounds. They don't know how many rounds he will have right now, they are hoping this treatment will reduce the size of the tumor that is on his pancreas, so they can do a major surgery to remove the tumor. This surgery will consist of a total redirection and partial removal of his intestines and removal of the tumor. They don't know yet when surgery will be, it will depend on the success of the chemo. The surgery recovery is estimated to be nine to twelve months long.
