Rest in peace fund

Donation protected

This campaign was originally posted to help raise money for my fathers stroke recovery. Unfortunately, our father lost his fight today, April 16th.  As I am sure many of you know, it is very expensive for funeral services. We will not be having a funeral, we are going to have our father cremated and placed into keep sakes for my sisters and I. Cremation is also very expensive, We will be using the money we have raised so far and any other funds towards his cremation. The remaining ashes will be poured into the ocean, at his favorite spot. LBS (Lauderdale-by-the-sea)

Any little bit helps. THANK YOU!

** the amount has been changed because we just found out that Gofundme deducts 9.25% total from each donation.

 I am also posting an

essay

I wrote in English my freshman year in college.

The Day My World Crumbled I woke up from my sleep and looked out the window, it was a beautiful, sunny day. The type of day any fifteen year old would seem to enjoy. I started my day with a bowl of captain crunch cereal and some cartoons. I had the same plans for the day as I usually do, hanging out with my best friend Rachel. The morning quickly passed and I started my normal route to Rachel’s house. A few days prior, I accidently broke my cell phone. My dad was the one who paid for my cell phone bill so he was the first person I called to make my complaints to. He immediately avoided the subject of purchasing me a new phone, which made me very angry. I shared a few words with him out of my frustration and he hung up on me. The next week or so he decided not to answer any of my phone calls. It was a Friday night when I decided to give it another try and call him. He finally answered; I then became relieved as I thought maybe he would give in to buying me a new phone. We didn’t have our usual lengthy conversation; this one was actually quite quick. While we were conversing he told me his plans for the night were to attend his buddy’s party. That was all the conversation consisted of and it quickly ended. I went on with my night and hung out with Rachel. We went to the movie theatre to meet up with a couple of friends and see a movie. My dad was not on my mind all night because I was distracted with my friends and the things we were doing. It was around 11:30pm, the time my mom wanted me to go

home

. My friends drove me home as I was only fifteen and could not drive myself. I got out of the car and went inside. As I am lying in my bed, watching TV, my phone rings with a number I have not seen before. I looked at the clock and realized it was midnight and then I wondered who would be calling me so late. I picked up the phone and there was an unfamiliar voice on the other end of the line, it was my Dad’s best friend. Gordo, my Dad’s best friend calmly said to me “there has been an accident and your dad is in the hospital.” My heart dropped and all I could think about was how my dad and I had an argument the last time we spoke to each other. I franticly replied “What happened? What happened? Is he okay?” Gordo replied “Go get your mom and head over to Holy Cross Hospital, your grandmother is there and will tell you everything.” I quickly hung up the phone and ran to my Mom’s room. I opened her door and with my eyes full of tears I cried out “My dad is in the hospital! We have to go there now!” My mom jumped up, got dressed, and we left for the hospital. We arrived at the hospital a short thirty minutes later. My grandma looked devastated. My heart was broken; I knew something really bad had happened. She went on to tell my mother and I what happened. She said that my dad had a stroke and he was now in a coma. My dad was only 39 years young. I couldn’t understand why something like this would happen to someone so young. I was in shock and the only thing I could do was cry. My dad was in a coma and there was nothing that anyone could do to fix it. A couple of months went by and I was starting my freshmen year of high school. My dad was still in a coma. Luckily, my school was right down the street from the hospital. Everyday after school I would take the bus to the hospital to visit him. There was nothing I could do; the only thing I did was stare at him lying there like a vegetable. Everyday that went by my heart remained broken. I would call his cellphone everyday just to hear his voice on the answering machine. Then one day the phone company turned his phone off. My heart shattered. My dad, three months later was still in a coma and the only way to hear his voice was taken from me. October came around, four months after the accident. My dad was still sleeping away in a coma. I was talking to him one day after school, begging him to wake up. I even held his arm and danced salsa with him. I wanted to show him what I learned from salsa class. Out of nowhere, in the middle of our “dance”, his hand squeezed mine tightly and he started screaming while tears ran down his face. He was waking up! He was finally waking up! My heart dropped again, and my eyes filled up with tears, but this time it was for a different reason. Not because I was sad but because I was happy. My dad was coming out of his coma and I was there to see it happen. After a few weeks, he seemed to be getting better. The doctors kept telling us he would recover fine. That never happened. He never got better. Still to this day my dad cannot speak (similar language as my toddler) or move the right side of his body. He is awake but still in a vegetable state. Nothing is the same anymore. I don’t have that funny, outgoing best friend anymore. My dad has to deal with his daughter coming to visit him and knowing when I leave, he can’t come home with me. That day in July, I call it, the worst day of my life. That was the day my world crumbled.
