Strength for Gordy

Gordy initially started getting sick at the end of October, and he progressively got worse until Christmas Day, after which he was unable to work. He was admitted into Aitkin hospital with suspected pneumonia in January. After days of intensive antibiotics with no improvement, Gordy was transferred to Methodist hospital. He underwent rounds of many test. Initially they thought he had a fungal lung infection. After no improvement on anti-fungal medications, a lung biopsy was preformed and further testing revealed a diagnosis of Granulomatosis (aka Wegeners).
Granulomatosis is a very rare disease affecting 3 out of every 100,000 people. It is an autoimmune disease that attacks the blood vessels of the organs like the lungs, kidneys, sinuses etc. It is potentially serious disease but with prompt diagnosis, it can be treated. Gordy will be undergoing intense treatments to get this disease under control. The treatments are similar to cancer treatments. He will have to do several rounds of immune suppressing infusions and steroids to reach remission. There is no predictable timeline for this, his remission depends on his response to the treatments. While being sick he has lost a significant amount of muscle mass, he will have to do physical therapy to regain his strength. Gordy has to live in a bit of a “bubble” right now because of his compromised immune system. He is resting most of the time as the disease and treatments take a lot out of him.
As most of you know Gordy has an amazing loving family. Jill, Tucker and Macy are staying strong for him. They are trying to live as much of a normal life as possible while this is all going on. Jill recently graduated in December and has been unable to work. Gordy is her priority right now and getting him into remission.
