Strange Bird Theatre Company is a freshly-hatched theatre collective, founded in October 2018, with an artistic commitment to work that tackles difficult themes to spark social dialogue. We seek texts that illuminate often-stigmatized social issues and, by bringing them to the forefront, combat their status as taboo or unapproachable. Strange Bird is therefore committed to diverse voices and representation as the truest reflection of human experience. We are comprised of emerging and established artists from a wide range of professions and walks of life. As a young company founded from scratch with a reading of Ruby Rae Spiegel's Dry Land on the floor of our living room, we are building our financial foundation and producing new projects from the ground up. In its first year, Strange Bird has already produced four major projects, including two main stage plays and two variety shows featuring new and established artistic voices. This year, we are launching our first official full season, and continuing to grow our network and platform so we can keep providing compelling and challenging stories for our audiences. We are so grateful to have you as part of our strange family. -- Strange Bird's 2019-2020 season will kick off with our third main stage production, Anthony Nielsen's The Censor, November 21-24 at The Chain Theatre. When a headstrong pornographer has her latest work rejected by a stuffy, low-level censor, their debates quickly turn into a darkly comic commentary on repression, the ego and its perversities, where sex becomes clinical and is the least complicated part of the story.
