<div>Henri de Kok uit Goirle overleed op 3 september 2026, op 67-jarige leeftijd, totaal onverwacht. Hij was kort daarvoor als vrijwilliger in Kenia geweest en wilde zich inzetten voor de mensen in het vluchtelingenkamp in Kakuma, in het noorden van het land.

<div>Daar worden keramische kooktoestellen, stoves, gemaakt die veel minder houtskool gebruiken dan de toestellen die de meeste mensen er nu gebruiken. Ook komt er veel minder rook vrij. Dat betekent minder belasting voor de luchtwegen en ogen van de mensen die ermee koken.

<div>Maar de stoves hebben nog veel grotere gevolgen. Omdat er minder hout nodig is, hoeven meisjes en vrouwen minder vaak op zoek naar brandhout. Daardoor houden ze meer tijd over voor school en werk. Bovendien hoeven ze minder vaak door afgelegen, bosrijke gebieden te lopen. Daarmee neemt ook het risico op aanranding, verkrachting en slangenbeten, drastisch af.

<div>Henri wilde ervoor zorgen dat veel meer mensen in Kakuma van deze kooktoestellen kunnen profiteren. Nu worden er ongeveer 400 per maand gemaakt. Zijn doel was om dat aantal op te schalen naar 4.000. Daarvoor is € 24.000 nodig: € 10.000 voor een beter gebouw en € 14.000 voor beter gereedschap. Kennis om op te schalen heeft hij al overgedragen. Het opschalen van de productie zal ook zorgen voor meer werkgelegenheid voor de mensen uit het vluchtelingenkamp.

<div>Henri wilde dit bedrag met hulp van Goirle bij elkaar brengen. Hij kan zijn missie zelf niet meer afmaken. Daarom willen we proberen zijn wens alsnog werkelijkheid te laten worden.

<div>De opbrengst van deze actie gaat naar het stove-project in Kakuma. Iedere bijdrage helpt om meer kooktoestellen te maken en daarmee mensen een gezonder, veiliger en beter leven te geven.
