Stossi and Baby Lola

It takes courage to reach out, share your story, and ask for help. I'm blessed to be friends with my friend, Stossi, and I am here to help her share her story with you all, with hopes that you can help her make ends meet during this bittersweet season.

Stossi is 31 weeks pregnant. In early December she was diagnosed with the onset of some serious pregnancy complications regarding her blood pressure and was put on mandatory medical leave at work. The doctors knew Pre-Eclampsia was in it’s beginning stages + began monitoring her closely. Right around the same time, the father of her child let it be known that he had decided he would be choosing to not have any involvement in their daughter’s life in any capacity.

The health of the baby is her main priority right now, and she is trying to not let the stress take its toll and she plans on how she is going to provide for her and baby Lola. The medical leave is unpaid, and she is not eligible for any government aid other than medical insurance and nutrition assistance. While this helps, it doesn't come close to covering monthly rent, bills, gas money, daily essentials etc. The pregnancy complications do not make Stossi eligible for any temporary disability in her state, and there is no legal responsibility of the father to help until after Lola is born.

Stossi doesn’t have family in the financial position to help her right now, and she has no choice but to move into a group home tomorrow. Stossi has been working hard to be as diligent as she can to take care of herself and her baby Lola. Her main priority has been to stay healthy so she can carry Lola to full term, but it has been a struggle to plan how she will be able to afford to live until the doctors tell her she can return to work once Lola is born and she recovers from delivery.

Stossi is so thankful for God having provided a place to live through a ministry that houses + assists single pregnant moms in situations like hers. This ministry is a non-profit + a total godsend to Stossi. She officially moves into the group home tomorrow, where rent, and as many basic needs as possible, will be provided for, until Stossi is able to return back to work. But there are specific needs she still needs to figure out a way to meet, such as gas to get weekly appointments and to work when she can return. Her nutrition assistance helps with enough food to get through about half of the month. She also has her monthly bills + most basic needs that she will have to find a way to meet, now that she has no income.

Her pre-eclampsia progressing continues to develop + her treatment has become more aggressive. She is considered a high risk pregnancy, and she is being monitored at least twice weekly by her specialists. A pre term labor is highly likely.

After Lola is born, Stossi realistically won't be able to return to work until May/June. It will also be a long process before she can start collecting child support from the father. Our goal is to raise money to help her make ends meet until then. She currently has $300 left, with no other foreseeable income coming her way. .

Because of the worsening of her condition she was unable to travel this weekend to San Diego for her baby shower + get the chance to celebrate the gift that Lola is During this time she needs to have her support system rally around her more than ever.

The Group Home Stossi + Lola will be living in will be a great support network for her to be set up for success to moving out on her own once she can return to work. However, the longest she can stay is until Lola is 9 months old, so this is a temporary situation. All the money we raise will go toward meeting Stossi's daily essential needs for the next 4-5 months until she is able to return to work. It will also go toward Stossi saving for rent so she is in the position to move into a safe place to raise her baby once her time at the group home is up. $5000 sounded like a lot of money to us. But then we remembered how big our God is, and what a great community he has blessed us with.

Please help me come alongside Stossi as we welcome baby Lola into the world. Every little bit helps. Prayers for healing, peace, and provision are also deeply needed. Asking for help can be scary, but our hope and prayer for this page is that Lola will be born into a community and support system that lets her know how loved and treasured she is.
