Story's Lighthouse

Story’s Lighthouse provides in-kind housing to those needing a supportive, educational, and welcoming environment to embrace their recovery and realize their potential. We offer an alternative to the heavy-handed punitive approaches and, in its place, high-quality mental health services, group and individual therapy, substance abuse treatment, intensive case management, and a holistic approach to healing.

The founders, Demone Cook and Shelton McElroy have worn the labels of felons, homeless, addicted, and other demeaning terms to describe people who are disempowered by a structure they did not create. Today Demone and Shelton are related with the empowering words of founders, graduates, and recovered, to name a few. These titles were not earned independently of community, policy, and opportunity and guide them in their mission of social equity.

Story’s Lighthouse is what justice looks like in action. It’s designed out of the lived experience of each founder's transformation. We intend to immerse each seeker crossing our threshold into an environment conducive to change and enlightenment, all while embracing and collaborating with the community.
