Story of Tracia

Tracia Imus is a wonderful gentle young lady who loves people, animals and art. To list everything she is would take too long. She is a blessing from the Lord to everyone who meets her. She makes everyone feel like they are valued and has a gifting to make animals feel relaxed. All this shows in her art.

She has lived most of her life with debilitating numerous struggles, which an answer recently came to the light. Tracia has suffered the past 16 of her 17 years of life with Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS), caused from a fall. It was a mystery to doctors until September of 2017. That is when the miracle started to fall into place. She met a lady named Dawnell, who when being introduced, noticed something in her eyes and asked if she ever had concussions. She recommended we take Tracia to Alderwood Vision Therapy in Lynnwood Wa. They were amazing and did an excellent very detailed assessment of her and diagnosed her with PCS. Through other recommendations from our primary care doctor and Alderwood Vision Therapy she has now started Craniosacral Therapy and almost ready to start Sound Therapy.

THIS IS WHERE YOU ALL FIT IN. These therapies are not covered by insurance. It’s quite expensive to get done what needs to be done for Tracia. Would you consider financially supporting this sweet girl? Post-Concussion Syndrome is different for each individual. Basically, it’s a concussion that never went away and some of the symptoms are more than difficult to live with. It robs you of “you”, things you want to do, things you want to feel, things you want to love, etc. It robs your life away from you.

The help is right around the corner but has an expensive tag attached to it. We are seeking to raise $10,000 to fund Tracia's treatment. The symptoms Tracia has been afflicted with her whole life are: Migraine level headaches 24/7. Base level is 4-5 and peaks to an 8 out of 10 on a daily basis. She does not remember ever not having a bad headache. (this happened when she was a one year old baby) Concentration is very difficult. She feels dizzy and nauseated every day if not every moment. Digestion is hard! Because of the injury her brain is not giving correct signals to the rest of her body. So her digestive system doesn’t know what to do without direction from the brain. She is in much pain 24/7 from it. She cannot eat many foods the rest of us take for granite, eating in general is difficult. All over body pain, yes every inch of her body, frequently hurts so bad that even touching her own skin hurts. Putting lotion on can be miserable. Hugs can hurt! There is a portion in our brain that tells us when we have a cut or hurt ourselves. That spot in her brain is on overload. Riding in a car is miserable. If the driver has to press on the break more than slightly it spikes the headaches, for hours afterwards, so do round-a-bouts. Riding in a car feels like when you just got off of a carnival ride and you’re not quite balanced. Light and sound is a terror for her. Going into grocery stores, warehouse stores, even homes, sports, school events, can overwhelm her brain.

The movements, sounds and lights all together are over stimulating. The therapists have said that a concussed brain cannot handle the regular amount of input and stimulation that a brain gets put under on a normal daily basis. These environments can cause her body or portions of her body to stop moving temporarily. It usually happens in her arms, legs or speech. The specialists say all these symptoms are common to PCS, they see it daily. (yes, she’s been tested for anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, etc) She is a determined to get better and is persistent in all she does.

To quickly describe these therapies, they will be re-training Tracia’s brain to accept the input it’s supposed to be able to do. Cranial-our skull actually moves! And our brain moves in a very slight motion-science believes this movement is what moves the spinal fluid around our brain (heals it also) and the spinal cord area. This therapy which includes special movement exercises, tells the brain what it needs to be doing. We are already seeing some results from this. Sound therapy trains her brain to realize that noise is normal, sounds are normal and in most cases the light sensitivity just goes away as the sound improves. Vision therapy helps the eyes and brain to work together. They use eye exercises to “talk” to the brain. 80% of what we learn is through our eyes. The nausea and dizziness are examples of the visual area. NONE of these therapies take medication to work. It all uses the body itself to heal itself. All the medications she’s been on never worked anyway.

She has been seen at Seattle Children’s Hospital for 4 years, neurologists, Gi Specialists, Endocrinologists, nutritionists, checked by behavioral health , two types of biofeedback, , Physical therapies and primary care to name a few with very little results. She has had every test done for digestive diseases known to man. They even looked at Fibromyalgia and cancer. She has had blood allergy tests and bacteria tests. She has done every single elimination diet known to man. She has had CT Scan and MRI. The doctors were calling her a human pin cushion. Post-concussion Syndrome can be very similar to other issues and that’s why all those tests were done. She has taken all types of medications and natural ways with no results, because her body and organs are fine---the signals from the brain to work properly are not.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and maybe Tracia’s story can help others out there in her situation too.
