Stories of Syria
My name is Andrew and I've been extremely fortunate to have had a career producing television shows for millions of viewers around the world.
Over the past few years, I've become troubled by the Syrian conflict and the lack of response to the refugee crisis. So in December of 2014, I decided I had to do something about it.
I put in a request and was granted permission to spend time at the Za'atari refugee camp, which is currently home to more than 80,000 Syrian refugees. I flew to Jordan shortly thereafter and with the assistance of the UNHCR and Royal Film Commission of Jordan, Stories of Syria (www.storiesofsyria.org) was born.
While at the camp, I met many individuals who expressed a desire to share their story with me. Even though we come from different worlds and speak different languages, listening to these stories first-hand created a connection between us. We laughed and cried together as human beings… as friends.
The experience made my relationship with the conflict personal. And even more so when the violent rhetoric towards Syrian refugees that followed the Paris terror attacks spread into conversation amongst people I know.
It became clear to me that the best defense I could provide was to create a platform for the refugees to share their stories and re-create the same connection I had made, and to share that connection with the world.
The Syrian refugees all have a story to tell.
It is my goal to make sure these stories are told, and more importantly, that people listen.
DONATIONS:
All money donated will be put towards the creation of this project (ie. flights, accommodations, equipment rental, crew costs, security, etc.).
My goal for this first round of funding is $25,000. A second fundraiser will begin AFTER filming.
Please take a few minute to check out my website www.storiesofsyria.org for more information.
