Dearest Lovely Humans,
We are Molly and Amy, co-founders of Poetry and Pictures, a creative project that emerged from a long winter of healing after trauma. We were seeking a lasting sense of wellbeing through an artistic outlet.
We have been invited by Shambala to run workshops teaching this lovely method of artistic conversation and at the last minute have lost £500 of funding!! We very much need some specialised photography and printing equipment so that these workshops can positively impact the hundreds of people touched by this project.
These workshops help to draw out the innovative potential in people who may not have considered themselves artists of any kind but who have a desire to let out that secret wish to be more creative. We will take them out on nature walks with cameras to deepen their field of vision and learn how to capture beautiful tiny moments in time. The photographs are then swapped between participants to begin the conversation between image and word. The attendees are guided to create simple poetry that encapsulates the feeling of the photographs, working to simplify the often complicated emotions into something that can be felt and instantly understood by the person reading, be it a close friend or complete stranger. The poetry and image is then combined to create an entirely new piece of art. This process benefits attendees by drawing out their creative potential, showing them that you don't have to be an accomplished photographer or poet to make something beautiful, it helps generate deeper conversations about why people have denied themselves a creative outlet, and gives a method to remedy this.
We are in need of funding within the next 7 days, to buy a photographic printer and scanner allowing us to make copies of the work created for display and exhibition, the photographic paper, and three more instant cameras so that there will be enough equipment for the participants to use!
Your support will mean so much to us, it will enable us to carry out a beautiful art project with many more people, spreading the stories of others, supporting emerging creatives of all ages to gently allow their inner artists to shine. This work is so full of love, of the path towards healing through art, of permission to show our emotions in a new way and to share them with others. Your help will make this happen!! And make many hearts sing with delight. Anything you can spare or feel moved to give will make a difference, to us and our workshop attendees. We are so grateful for your time, energy and assistance in helping bring this project to its fullest potential.
