About Steven:
I am a journalist, a writer, and photographer. My life’s ambition is to bring compelling stories to a wider audience that will educate, inform, and cause a change in our collective way of thinking. This is something I’ve done through radio, television and print media.
For just over thirty years, working in radio as Steve Young, writing locally as Steven Cottingham, and internationally as Steven Zimmerman I’ve sought out stories that have power. This project is based on just such a story

The Project:
With Eva Mozes Kor, a woman who not only survived Auschwitz, but the tortures of Joseph Mengele, I have been moved to share a different type of story, a different view of suffering, and of hope. Eva’s is a story of hope, of forgiveness, of the power of life.

This project is threefold.
First, I will be visiting with individuals who survived the Holocaust. My hope is to have them share their story, as Eva did, based off two questions- questions of hope.
Second, to record and share those stories with the world.
One thing I would like to point out, these are not stories of the Holocaust, per se. I am not seeking a retelling of what they have already shared with groups such as Yad Vashem, the Shoah Foundation, and others. This is simply their stories of hope.
Third, to bring these survivors to our community, the El Paso, Texas, metro area, so that others may meet with them, sit with them, and hear their stories first hand.
This is not something I can do alone.
What I am asking for:
The cost breakdown is as follows:
1. $5,000 for travel expenses to meet with survivors, in person;
2. $5,496.95 for the Nikon D850 Filmmaker’s Kit. Better equipment, better video;
3. $479.94 for editing software;
4. $2,599.00 for Apple MacBook Pro.
The total cost of this project is $13,575.86
What will you receive:
Each person who contributes to this project will receive the following:
-For a contribution of any size, you will receive a screen credit for each video produced;
-For a contribution of $25, you will receive a video copy of one of the interviews, prior to release, as well as screen credit;
-For a contribution of $50, or more, you will receive a copy of the first five (5) interviews, as well as screen credit, and a copy of the magazine we plan to publish in connection with this project.
-For a contribution of $1,000, or more, you will receive a copy of all videos, screen credit, and will become a part of the production (you will be interviewed in person, or over the phone. Interviews may become part of a special part of the film(s) at the end). You will also receive a special copy of the magazine we plan to publish in connection with this project.
