Hello, My name is Ady Olvera and I am a member of Concord Communities Alliance. I am part of a grassroots coalition with Linda Jacob and Jack Fliehmann from Love Known and Not Alone, Gidget Perreira from the El Monte Community Pantry, and The Free Press Project.
Together with many others, we have been supporting unhoused people in Concord for quite some time now, providing resources, supplies and advocacy support. This week we found out that, once again that Concord PD, under the direction of city council has authorized a sweep of our unhoused neighbors who should be staying-in-place during the pandemic per CDC guidelines. Nonetheless, CPD will take the City of Concord’s directive and displace our neighbors anyways — even if it puts their health, and those of others, at risk.
We are asking for your support to help us bring awareness to #StopTheSweeps and help our unhoused neighbors move to a new area.
- We are planning an action event for this weekend, and we will use a funds to support the needs of the unhoused.
- We will help individuals move to a new location should they desire help, but we need funds to buy packing supplies, and coordinate resources to help them move. All must be done while keeping everyone safe during the pandemic.
- For those that wish to stay, but their stuff gets taken by Public Works under the directive of CPD, we will use funds to purchase new tents, blankets, etc.
