Stop the Marblemount Quarry

We are a group of concerned citizens who are trying to stop the Kiewit Infrastructure Company from developing and operating a huge blast-oriented quarry mine off Rockport Cascade Road in Marblemount, Washington. We are fighting to stop this mining project and preserve our environment, endangered animals, rivers, trees, streams, Big Bear Mountain, and the peace, tranquility and health of our individual homes and families. A huge blast-oriented quarry mine doesn’t belong here!
During a 100 year operation this gigantic venture would negatively impact the entire Skagit Valley as it would involve the transport of large jetty stones down Highway 20 (a two lane road) from Marblemount to I-5 with 260 large truck trips a day going in both directions. We estimate that the trucks would travel in excess of 10,000 miles a day just in our valley. The impact on air quality, traffic safety and congestion would be significant.
We have established Skagit River Alliance, a Washington nonprofit corporation for the purpose of educating the public on the environmental hazards of this application, and to inform county officials of the significant impacts. We are fundraising pay for assistance from environmental lawyers, to focus the efforts of residents of our county and environmental groups, to protect the Skagit River (a designated Wild and Scenic River), and to establish Skagit River Alliance as a longer term advocate of the Skagit River, including a web site, application for 501(c)(3) status and organization basics.
