Latest Update -Please make your donation now

We are now at the critical point that we must have sufficient funds to pay for legal counsel for the duration of the public inquiry itself. We need to secure £18,000 for the fighting fund for the public inquiry. Pledges and financial donations need be paid in full and in the bank, otherwise we cannot proceed with legal counsel at the actual inquiry. Please make your donation now.

Mr Warwick Harris (a Chartered Accountant and Secretary of the West Square Residents’ Association) has kindly agreed to provide independent oversight and scrutiny over this vital process in conjunction with the management committee of Stop the Blocks Community Action Group.

Background

The developer Anthology/Lifestory Group has launched a planning appeal to secure planning permission for their controversial and inappropriate scheme  (29 storey tower block and 4 storey block cramming 258 units on 0.51 ha site) at the site of the former Woodlands nursing home in Kennington.  The planning appeal will be conducted in the form of a public inquiry chaired by the Planning Inspectorate which is likely to be held in a the near future.

We have reached a critical point

We are expecting the developer to put £1 m behind a legal and professional team to win planning approval. Your team at Stop the Blocks Community Action Group need your help and backing. We need to secure vital external expertise to ensure we have fully qualified and robust professional legal counsel and expert advice.

We consider that the proposals ride roughshod over planning policy, harms listed buildings, conservation areas and negatively impacts the amenity and privacy of existing local residents.  Generous local neighbours have already pitched in £7,440 to date, but we need the funds for professional and expert help to professionally represent and assist the community action group at the public inquiry.  We need your backing to win!

We are asking for everyone in this group to donate what they can, ideally at least £120, and if you can afford it then please donate more. If everyone in this group does this, we can the secure professional advice, submissions and reports we need to hopefully secure a rejection of this vastly over scaled and damaging scheme.

About Your Stop the Blocks Community Action Group

Stop the Blocks in Kennington  is a group formed by members of the local community that is constructively challenging the wide concerns over the
redevelopment  proposals for the former Woodlands Nursing Home site in Kennington .

Those involved who meet, participate. support or work on the campaign are all local people from Lambeth, Kennington and Southwark. The daily running costs (time and expense) of this campaign over the last eighteen months has been fully borne by a group of generous individuals from their own pockets. This campaign has been fuelled by your continuous backing, support and goodwill.

We feel it is important to get the best redevelopment outcome possible on this site not just for the current community, but also the newcomers who we want to welcome into the area so that it continues to flourish and grow. The volunteers in this group have done and will continue to do everything they can to help the community challenge these proposals, but we need your financial assistance now.

Any monies raised which are unused when this campaign ends will be donated to local community charities.

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

Kind regards

Your Team at Stop the Blocks Community Action Group
