<div>Since 2019 we’ve been building an alliance of neighbors to fight <strong>the proposed new asphalt plant</strong> on Airport Road, just 4,200 feet from Cherokee Ridge Estates, 5,600 feet from Banbury Cross and 2,200 feet from Louviers.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The plant would bring <strong>the most intense air pollution our area has ever experienced.</strong> It would be allowed to operate <strong>24 hours a day.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>The Good News:</strong> I believe proposal violates Douglas County law and we’ve already won a preliminary court battle. (Sherman et al. v. Douglas County)
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>The Bad News:</strong> The Douglas County Commissioners seem intent on rubber-stamping the illegal proposal and forcing us to spend $100,000+ to take them to court and force them to follow their own rules. (source: public hearings in 2022 and 2024)

</div>
<div>If we could trust our elected officials to follow their own laws, I wouldn’t be writing you today. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to spend tens of thousands of dollars just to force the county to follow the rules and keep illegal industrial pollution away from our homes, trails, playgrounds and baseball fields.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>I’ve personally spent $40,000 and hundreds of hours </strong>fighting the asphalt plant in the last 5 years. And I’ve formed a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit to allow my neighbors to make tax-deducible donations to keep up the fight.
</div>

<div>I wouldn’t be asking if this wasn’t an absolute necessity.
</div>

</div>
<div>I know we all have busy lives, and<strong> there are plenty of things we’d rather do than worry </strong>about industrial pollution affecting our kids and our homes.

<div>And frankly, that’s exactly what the company that wants to build the asphalt plant (and their friends in elected office) are hoping for –

<div><strong>They are betting that we will give up and look the other way. </strong>
</div>

<div>They are in for an unpleasant surprise, because I will never stop fighting to keep our families healthy and safe. We have the legal team and the gameplan to make sure this toxic industrial facility never threatens our community.
</div>

<div>But our adversaries are betting they can outspend us and wear us down so they can rubber-stamp this facility and ignore their own rules.
</div>
