Stolen kids vacation money

Our 3 kids have sacrificed birthday parties, birthday presents, and most recently Christmas, in order to save for a Disney vacation.
Initially we were saving for a Disney Cruise, but when Dusty got laid off in October, we knew that was out of the question. He jumped on the job search and had a job within a week and started about 3 weeks later. On his very first day the forklift operator lifted a bundle of rebar and it swung and smashed Dusty’s leg. It’s been a month and a half since then. Not only can he not work, but there doesn’t seem to be any progress when it comes to his leg healing.
With the new job, and with the savings the kids already had, we thought we would be set for a small vacation to Disneyland. We finally surprised the kids on Christmas Day; planning to go as soon as we had a few more thousand saved up.
On Friday, January 12th, someone broke into our home and stole all of our kids saving. Now when I say kids savings, I mean 100% their savings. Over 2k, from the past year of saving by forfeiting birthdays and presents, Christmas presents, and of course doing chores. All 3 kids, including the 3 year old has helped clean, done laundry, and dishes just to earn a couple bucks here and there.
These kids have most recently stepped up in a major way since Dustys injury and each understand that we need to work hard to accomplish things as a family. We have to work hard as a family. And most importantly, nothing is more important than family.
Since the break in the kids have done quite well and not living in fear. But for the life of them they cannot understand how all of their money can be gone and the cops cannot simply “catch the bad guys”.
As much as we wish we could, we cannot pay back their savings. This is a Hail Mary to be able to still go on the vacation they have worked so hard for.
