Stockwell Good Neighbours

Tax deductible
Stockwell Good Neighbours are a charitable group of older mainly West Indian elders  the "Windrush" generation who meet weekly at the Oval theatre in Lambeth and are supported by a small team of dedicated volunteers and coordinated by a qualified general and mental health  nurse with 30 years experience of working with older adults.
They have been meeting for 44 years and about 60 people attend weekly and take part in a range of activities designed to keep minds and bodies active, such as Tai Chi, Aerobics, arts and crafts, trips to the seaside and theatre, they play Dominoes, Bingo and love celebrating  life.  Wherever possible we promote health and especially mental health and Dementia awareness. Our oldest member is 103 and still does Tai Chi  and many are over 90.
The group is reliant on donors, grant funds and in house fundraising to subsidise the activities on offer so everyone can benefit and importantly  reduce isolation and loneliness.
It costs the group approximately £13,000 a year to offer an existing programme of activities and its becoming harder to raise the funds  due to local authority withdrawal of funding a few years ago. We would love to do more, develop a choir project, a reading group and explore the idea of reducing stereotypical views of ageing, some would love to try circus skills for older people.
We would be so grateful of your financial support to keep this wonderful group of elders active and connected and remain  a vital provider of essential services for older adults.
