On the afternoon of July 25, the Stillings family's life changed dramatically when Dan and Terry's beautiful daughter, Lauren, went into cardiac arrest.

From the time paramedics entered the home to the time Lauren was transported to UNC Children's Hospital, they performed CPR on her for almost 2 hours. At one point, they informed Kayla, Donavon (Lauren's siblings), Dan, and Terry that they didn't think she was going to make it.
Lauren fought, however, and she fought hard. With the assistance of a ventilator, a feeding tube, excellent caregivers, and a loving and devoted family, Lauren held onto life with determination and tenacity.
But Lauren's fight is still not over, and her family is forever changed.
Lauren has resided at a pediatric rehabilitation hospital in Charlotte-- about a 2.5-hour drive from her home in Cary-- for the last 7 weeks. She is making progress every day, but there is no doubt that her healing will be a long road. Her speech is improving, and she is learning to walk again with the help of her awesome therapy team. Dan and Terry have stayed with Lauren every night, alternating sleeping shifts at the Ronald McDonald House.

Dan and Terry's employers have been empathetic, but paid time off is starting to run out, and Charlotte is a long drive. Dan recently had to return to Cary so that he could go back to work, leaving Terry in Charlotte by herself. Unfortunately, FMLA leave is considered unpaid leave by both Dan and Terry's employers. Without some financial help, they won't be able to use their FMLA leave and keep up with the household bills.

Your contribution to this fund will help Dan and Terry to use their FMLA leave to both stay in Charlotte with Lauren until she is ready to come home. It will also be used for the (expensive!) travel costs that are starting to add up.
This is an urgent need. As Dan recently said, "I'm at the house, but mind and heart are still in Charlotte."
