Stewart Erskine's Medical Bills
Stewart McDowell Erskine IV was born on a snowy day on April 15, 1986. He was born with a rare heart disease called Shone's Syndrome and had his first surgery at eight days old. His next surgery was at two and a half but this time, he had a little brother, Tim Erskine, to come home to, too.
Over the next nine years, he would become the oldest of five siblings: two younger brothers and two younger sisters. He was attentive and loving, always willing to help out when it came to his siblings.
While at marching band camp in 2003, Stew's heart stopped beating. No one expected him to make it, but Stew wasn't ready to go at the age of 17. In an attempt to regulate his heart, the doctors put in a defibrillator/pacemaker.
He had his ups and his downs, he thrived and he struggled, and he pushed through. Stew gave a lot of what he had in order to make a better life for himself and those around him.
In 2014, while working at Cheddar's as a server, Stew would meet his wife, Krissy Jimenez. The two dated for two years before getting engaged in May of 2016 and married the following month. The two were waiting to have a wedding reception until after Stew recovered from his latest surgery.
In March of 2016, Stew went into the hospital after having some chest pains. The doctors told him that he would need to get two of his heart valves replaced. Stew went into surgery on 16 September and spent eight hours in surgery at Loyola University Medical Center. The surgery was successful, but the strain on his lungs was making it difficult for Stew to breathe. He spent four weeks in critical condition and fought as hard as he could. When he was awake, Stew was hopeful for his future and communicated his love for all of those that surrounded him. Stew's health kept declining. Despite his valiancy, he was unable to recover from the intrusive surgery. On 15 October, with his entire family around his bed, Stew passed away. He leaves behind innumerable amounts of memories and love.
The Erskine family has created this GoFundMe page in order to help alleviate the expenses. As you can imagine, the bills have been piling up over the last year, beginning with the one-week stay in March. The medical bills are large, and we need the assistance to pay. Some of the funds will also go to help Krissy transition from a two-income household to a one-income household. Sabrina Erskine will be in charge of withdrawals and distribution of your donations.
