If you know me, you know that my sweet pup Stevie Nicks means the world to me. She came into my life exactly when I needed her but as a total surprise. While most of the time she just wants to snuggle, she also loves running around with her larger dog friends at Zilker Park and on the greenbelt. And if you are wondering, yes she takes after her namesake with a perfect mix of diva, down to earth scrappiness, and a whole lotta heart. On a typical Monday morning hike with her buddies, she was mauled by a coyote near Barton Springs in a high traffic area (the entrance to the greenbelt which is basically in people's backyards). Thankfully my girl friend and two kind strangers helped chase them down and found her hiding under a log. Miraculously she didn’t break any bones and her major organs were spared, but she has over a dozen deep puncture wounds and severe bruising from her neck to hind legs. The day after the second pic, her entire abdomen was solid red. After 36 hours in the hospital, she has been recovering at home with multiple painkillers and antibiotics. Last week she developed a large lump the size of my hand on her ribs that had to be drained and checked for infection. We are waiting to see if her body will reabsord the fluid, which is known to do, but given the extent of the damaged tissue, it is most likely that she will need surgery (in which case I will update the goal). This goal is only the bills that have already come in and surgery will at least double it. My little girl means the world to me and anything to help her continue her fight is greatly appreciated.
