Steve Luczenczyn's urgent medical need!
As many people will tell you Steve is a big guy with an even bigger heart and now he and his family need help.
While driving his motorcycle on Sunday afternoon Steve mistook a painted yellow curb for a normal yellow lane marker. As a result he crashed into the curb and was thrown off his motorcycle suffering a broken neck and severe head injuries including swelling of the brain. Paramedics were quickly on the scene taking Steve to first the local hospital then transporting him to a larger, more advanced medical unit.
Currently Steve is in ICU in critical condition. Doctors have performed spinal surgery and are monitoring the swelling of his brain keeping him sedated due to pain. At this time, it is too soon for any future prognosis or thoughts on recovery.
While this alone is devastating it is compounded by the fact that it happened outside Seattle, WA. As Steve was only on a day ride from Vancouver, BC he did not have travel insurance.
We have started this campaign to provide immediate financial support for Steve's family (including his children who are in Seattle incurring daily living costs) and to raise the necessary funds to transport Steve back to Vancouver. We have all heard about the costs of medical care in the US and that is exactly what is happening to Steve and his family. Costs to date over $100k and doctors have advised the road to recovery will be long.
Over the decades of our friendship we have seen Steve literally give people the shirt off his back. He has a smile for everyone and makes friends and great times happen everywhere he goes. Today we ask for your donation to help our friend and his family get back home.
