Steve's Homecoming

Donation protected
In early March 2020, while painting in his studio, Steve saw a flash of light on the left side of his peripheral vision. He was examined by his physician and spots were found on his brain, but cancer was not initially diagnosed. Steve's symptoms persisted which drove him to seek a second opinion and eventually he was found to have a brain tumor. He underwent a biopsy of the tumor at Mass General and the results were, unfortunately, a diagnosis of glioblastoma, and he began treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Steve became aware of an opportunity to travel to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles to undergo surgery and enroll in a promising new clinical trial only available at the university. Steve and his loving partner, Peter, headed to California in September 2020 to begin the trial. Steve's initial surgery was a success and rehabilitation following surgery has had ups and downs. Unfortunately, in a terrible turn of events, both Steve and Peter contracted COVID-19 and Peter, Steve’s beloved partner and companion of 36 years, passed away on January 10th. Now, heartbroken, fighting for his life and 3000 miles from home, Steve continues to make progress toward recovery. All who know and love Steve believe that his best chances for a full recovery, will be at home in Chatham, MA. Traveling for someone in Steve's condition, however, will be a very challenging ordeal and will require a complex and detailed plan including on-board medical services and constant monitoring from door to door. Of course, there will be significant cost associated with such a journey and Steve's family and friends are asking for your support. If you have enjoyed Steve's delightful company or delighted in his captivating artwork in your home, or if you are simply compelled by this harrowing story, we ask for you to consider donating to our effort to finally bring Steve home where he belongs. If you are not in a position to donate to this fund and would like to send some words of encouragement to Steve, he will certainly love to hear from those who care about him. Close friend and colleague of Steve & Peter's, Nancy Spencer, will be directing reimbursement of all expenses related to Steve's care through a separate bank account, until all the funds raised have been allocated. If you have any specific questions about how your donation will be spent, please feel free to send us a message here or call the gallery at [phone redacted] and we will be happy to offer a detailed explanation and show you sopporting documents. Thank you so much for your generosity.
