Steve Ruiz Memorial Fund

In celebration and memory of Steve Ruiz,
a loving husband, treasured father, and friend to all,
who answered the call from our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 25, 2018.

Our hearts go out to his family during this
difficult time. Survived by his wife Elsa and charming
daughter Ariana.




Steve had recently been fighting a courageous battle with cancer, having only been diagnosed a short five months ago. His faith kept him strong and optimistic that he would get better and I'd like to believe he closed his eyes one final time knowing he would.




Steve was a coffee connoisseur, a Green Coffee Buyer for F.Gavina & Sons, for over 30 years. He had been a
constant contributor to the overall growth and
the success of the family-owned company. His coffee
acumen allowed him to travel the world and meet so many wonderful people, and coincidentally, it's how he came to meet his beloved Elsa.

Steve was from the Bay Area, but Monrovia Ca is where he planted roots. Still, he cheered for his hometown teams like the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics. His fandom was greatest for his Golden State Warriors. Riding high through the "Splash Brothers" era, come playoff time, Steve would wear his lucky Warriors t-shirt which he claimed he never washed as to not jinx his team. Because, well, laundry detergent will derail a season, right?

What I'll miss most is the witty banter he shared
with those in his company. His easy demeanor welcomed conversation, especially when it involved sports. Whenever a string of texts became ridiculously long between friends he would chime in with that one text that had us all in stitches laughing. That's all we got from time to time, one text. One strategically, well-placed text.

I'll miss those.

Steve enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed a good laugh with friends, but more so with his family. And of course, he sure did make one great cup of coffee.



I am but one of Steve's many friends who miss
him dearly. One of many who will fondly remember his
kindness, humility, but most of all his gregarious
nature.




With permission from the family, this fund has been set up to help with the needs of Elsa and Ariana in the following days, weeks, and months of life without their
cherished Steve.
