Steven's Last trip to Honduras

Hello all and thank you for taking the time out of your day to look at my page! As many of you know I will be taking my fifth and final trip down to Honduras this winter break. This will be my longest trip yet and I will be staying for a little over 3 weeks. While I am there we will begin construction on a school in rural Honduras.  This page will support the trip costs, which cover: food, room and board, transportation, safety, flight costs, etc.                           Honduras is an extremely poor nation with high rates of gang violence. Poverty and gang-violence perpetuate each other and create a vicious cycle. It is our belief that education and youth empowerment will break this cycle and provide children with the opportunities needed to help themselves. Education in countries like Honduras is a luxury and is not a basic right. In rural areas especially, the government puts education on the back-burner. That is why it is so crucial for organizations like Students Helping Honduras to build schools for the children most in need.                                         I cannot express in words how much this organization means to me. The experiences I have had with SHH and the people of Honduras have truly changed my life. In fact, I am now the president of the University of Maryland chapter, the biggest chapter in the nation. In the fall semester we have raised a little over $10,000 and plan to raise another $15,000 in the spring so that we can complete a school.
            Due to this being my senior year this will be my final trip with the organization. This is a bitter sweet end to something that has truly made my college career something worthwhile. However, I owe it all to you who donate money each year so that I can go on such an eye-opening trip. I hope that you decide to donate so that I can help these kids get the education they so desperately deserve. Every dollar counts. One dollar pays for 2 cinder blocks or 4 notebooks in Honduras.
