Stevens Disaster Recovery Fund

Andrea and John Stevens live in Houston with their three children, Anna, A.J., and Juliet.  They are near Dairy Ashford and Memorial about a block and a half away from Buffalo Bayou.

They were faring pretty well for the first four days of the devastating rainfall from Hurricane Harvey.  Things changed rapidly when water began to be released from the two reservoirs, both of which are close to their home.  They evacuated the evening of Monday 8/28 to a nearby hotel when water in their street began to accumulate up the driveway and just as they lost power.  On Tuesday, 8/29, water started entering the house.  This picture was taken on 8/29 in the afternoon when there was about 6-8 inches of rain on the first floor.  We know the water has risen higher with additional release of water from the reservoirs, but their neighborhood is blocked off and they are unable to get to the house and assess the damage.  Due to  the continual releases from the reservoirs, they may not be able to access the house for another 2 weeks.

The good news is that after a second night in the hotel, they are now settled in with John's parents in Spring, TX.  They are all safe and dry and the kids are happy.

Now they start the process of insurance, FEMA, clean up, etc.  They don't know what they need specifically, but they don't have flood insurance (the house is not in the 500 year floodplain).  The repairs are going to be very costly.  Andrea's car may be a total loss, too.

Many of you have offered to help in any way needed.  Thank you!  We have set up this page to make it easier for those of you that are interested in making a monetary donation to help cover some of their expenses.  These funds will be used to clean and repair their house, replace furniture and appliances that have been ruined, and replace toys and other items in the house and garage  that have been damaged beyond repair by the flooding.

They are hoping to have all of this done within a month's time, but can't even start until the water recedes and they can get back in the house.

They appreciate the love and support shown to them by so many friends and family members just in these last few days.  As the enormity of this settles in, please know that they will be deeply grateful for any gift that you are able to make.

If you would like to write a personal check, instead of donating online, please make payable to Andrea Stevens and mail or give to us.  Email us if you need our mailing address.

We thank you for your generosity and pray that your families and friends affected by the storm are all safe and dry. God bless you all.
