As you may know, our son, Steven Porcello, was diagnosed with stage 3c colorectal cancer, in August 2016. Since then, he has undergone radiation treatments and 2 courses of chemotherapy, in addition to major surgery, in March 2017, to remove the tumor.
Although it appears that the tumor was successfully removed, the surgery resulted in scar tissue and nerve damage that left Steven in severe, chronic pain, with periodic spasms of excruciating pain that last several hours per episode and which occur as often as two or three times per day.
Unfortunately, even heavy doses of prescription pain killers have not been effective in relieving the pain, so doctors have attempted to block the neural pain receptors, with a series of epidural injections, into his spine. So far, the nerve blocks have not been successful in relieving Steven’s pain or in diminishing the number, frequency, or severity of the periodic spasms. Although we’re optimistic about his progress, it appears that Steven will have to undergo several more surgeries and treatments, on his road to recovery.
The treatments and surgery, as well as the chronic pain and spasms, have left Steven unable to work, for the past year. Unfortunately, Steven’s health insurance only paid for part of the treatments and surgery, leaving him over $60,000 in debt, with additional medical bills on the way.
As you know, Steven is a single parent and is struggling to support his beautiful 10 year old daughter, during this difficult time.
We are asking for contributions, to help pay for Steven’s medical costs and living expenses, until he is able to return to work.
