Aloha family and friends,
On November 17, 2017 I suffered a cardiac arrest. Many of you know it took three zaps of the AED to bring me back. After an hour in the ER I was rushed to the CAT lab where they were able to look at my arteries and veins on my heart. Dr’s said that my cardiac arrest was not a “true heart attack” whereas arteries or veins have blockage. In my case, the heart stopped due to electrical malfunction. It was recommended by my cardiologist that I have a defibrillator inserted.
A few days later I had that procedure done. I was released a week later, but prior to being released I was advised that I would not be able to drive for at least six to seven months. This meant that I could not continue doing the work I was doing prior to November 17th, I could no longer be a taxi driver.
During my recent visit to the cardiologist he pointed out that my defibrillator continues to register abnormal heart activity. On top of this, I have experienced several instances of “seizure-like” activity. I recently had a CAT scan done but Dr’s still cannot determine possible cause. I am awaiting orders to have an MRI done in Honolulu soon.
Needless to say I have been out of work for several months while non-covered medical expenses and living expenses have pilled up. I have applied and been interviewed for both Social Security Disability and Hawaii SNAP (food stamp) benefits and awaiting the outcome.
I am doing everything I can to make my life better financially. I know it's a lot to ask and it seems an impossible amount and this is one of the most embarrassing things I've had to do. It sounds impossible, but ‘ohana close friends have indicated their willingness to help, and that's given me the courage to ask. I'm doing this as a last resort. I humbly ask for the help of those who can. I know things are tight for most.
