It all began on Monday November 2nd Steve travelled to Indianapolis from their home in Knoxville, TN for what was to be a semi-normal checkup with his heart doctor. They were to discuss a possible cardivertion and/or heart ablation to get and keep him out of AFib. Steve was admitted and the tests and scans began. By Thursday November 5th they were told he needed a transplant and needed it now. They were also told Steve would not be coming home-that he would need to remain in the hospital until transplant time. He did have a heart ablation done on November 5th. November 6th they removed 6 teeth to reduce risk of infection. During all of this, Steve also undergoes dialysis at least 3-4 times a week. By the weekend, he had been moved to a room which was to be his home away from home for quite sometime. Steve and Jen had just began a lot of the prep work for transplants-mental and physical aspects, social work, support networks, etc. Monday November 9th— Steve had gone into cardiac arrest and got transferred immediately to ICU where he was stabilized. On Thursday November 12th, he was moved out of ICU into a room which became his home away from home waiting room. Steve’s transplant case was presented on November 12 and continued moving up higher on the list as the months went on. Since then, Jen and Steve have been in a whirlwind of emotions, health issues, and events with one of them thinking they finally got a perfect donor match only to find out it really wasn't. But 2.5 weeks later they got another call that they found another match, so the heart and kidney transplant began. The doctors placed the heart in but Steve's body didn't accept it too well and had some major health concerns and issues there after which caused the kidney transplant to be on hold. Unfortunately, Steve's conditions got worse and a few days later just couldn't pull through. Steve left behind his wife, Jen, and 4 beautiful children- India, Jayzeonna, Remington, and Andrew. Any donations in memory of Steve is gratefully accepted.
