Steve Peterson-Legionnaires Disease

Donation protected
I have created this gofundme for my uncle Steve. Steve is my son's Godfather, christian, friend, animal lover and just an overall amazing man. Steve is the kind of man you meet and immediatly spark a friendship. He is one of the most kind, generous men I know. Steve lost the love of his life nearly two years ago and then tragedy hit Steve again when this unexpected illness of Legionnaires Disease came on suddenly. We thought we were going to lose him and at one point we all surrounded his bed saying possible goodbyes and prayers. This disease can affect anyone of us at any time and your life can be turned upside down just like Steve's. Steve is not one to ask for help but he will need help to get through this so any amount you can help with would be amazing, there is no amount too small. Below is just a glimpse of what Steve has endured. God bless you all!

Steve became ill on 8/16 with flu like symptoms.

By 8/19 he was so ill he could not breathe or stand on his own, he was taken to Fairview Southdale admitted with severe Pneumonia with heart rate over 200, antibiotics were started.

8/20 his condition worsened he could not breathe on his own, he was intubated was deeply sedated and on paralytic medication.

Things became so grim 8/21 we were advised to call family and close friends to come to see him. Pray, to say what needed saying. Miraculously Steve survived the night, antibiotics still not effective both lungs now infected.

He was rushed to U of M to be put on  a lung bypass machine. Still waiting on lung culture results to show what this bacteria was and course of treatment needed.

8/21 culture results showed Legionella bacteria.

Steve had LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE.

He remained on lung bypass, ventilator and feeding tube for over two weeks.  Ventilator was removed breathing worsened, Steve was intubated a second time, shortly after that his heart stopped, he was revived by chest compressions.

Due to his extended hospitalization, his inability to move, Steve caught a secondary pneumonia, high heart rate, along with hematoma's, one in neck, one in leg which has kept him him bedridden. Steve has a long journey ahead with minimum of 1-3.weeks at an Acute Rehab Unit and further rehab at home.

Due to no wrong doing on his part, just breathing contaminated air. This disease has created complete havoc to his life and finances. He is a great man who'd help anyone he can. He needs some help now.

This could happen to anyone, we do not know where this bacteria is lurking. We would not want another person to go through this.  Our  Dept of Health will not research unless there is more than one case reported.

Not even if a death occurs!  Steve lives in South Mpls, he works in Eagan. There has to another case..... If any information please let us know.
