 Kayleigh is sinds gr8 ziek. Na bijna 1jr aan onderzoeken bleek zij ziekte van crohn te hebben. Omdat het zolang duurde voordat zij een uitslag had was alleen haar slokdarm niet ontstoken. Vanaf haar maag was alles aangetast. Hierom moest zij direct 6wkn aan een medisch vloeibaar dieet. Enkel flesjes drinkvoeding en dat ook op haar 13e verjaardag. Zij deed het dapper.

 Helaas was haar immuunsysteem zo van slag dat zij "aquagene pruritus" kreeg. Simpel gezegd houdt dit in dat zij allergisch is voor vocht op haar huid. Zweten, mist, regen, douchen, alles wat je huid vochtig maakt geeft een vreselijke reactie bij haar. Gekmakende, allesoverheersende jeuk. Ik denk dat het voor ons een beetje voor te stellen is alsof de binnenkant van onze huid voelt als één grote muggenbult die met brandnetels wordt ingesmeerd.

 Juist vanwege deze allergie koos Kayleigh voor een brommobiel ipv een scooter. Weer of geen weer, Kayleigh zat droog. Zij kon naar school, naar haar verzorgpaardje, naar haar stage in de zorg en soms ook naar vriendinnen. Door haar Crohn en pruritus moet zij al zoveel laten. Haar autootje gaf haar iets vrijheid, iets van voelen als een gewone puber. Dat is zij nu kwijt, haar vrijheid. Vrijheid om simpelweg naar school te kunnen of naar haar werk. De schrik en de blauwe plekken gaan weg maar dit doet haar nog het meeste pijn.
