Step up for Sam

Donation protected
Steph and Kris Douglas's second child Sam was born on the 18th September 2014 following a very healthy and normal pregnancy. When Sam was born at full term it was quickly realised there were abnormalities and he was given a MRI at less than a day old. Steph and Kris were told that his brain had not formed properly and Sam would be developmentally delayed and have disabilities. At 2 days old Sam had his first epileptic seizure and the family have been on a crazy emotional rollercoaster ever since trying to come to terms with the cards they have been dealt.

You never think that something like this will happen to you, but it has happened to the Douglas family and they try to lead as normal a life as possible with Sam and his 6 year old sister Molly.

Sam is extremely delayed in his development and while there is no cure, there are a number of therapies and treatments that can give Sam the best chance of gaining some independence. Unfortunately the NHS cannot support regular or intensive therapy for children like Sam which could really make a difference to his life.

Steph and Kris recently with the help of a few family members and friends took Sam to London for an intensive course of CME Therapy which has done wonders for Sams balance and will, hopefully aid him in becoming physically independent.

This was so amazing and I hope that they will be able to make further trips this year to London for more... but it's very expensive.

Along with some other friends I thought about fundraising to help this. Steph and Kris weren't sure about asking people to help.....but if anyone deserves help we think it is them - since Sam was born they have raised more than £25,000 for their local special care baby unit and children's epilepsy charities - for OTHER families and children.... I think it's time we helped Sam.

We are going to take part in the Baxters Loch Ness Festival of running on 24 September 2017 to raise funds for Sams therapies. There are a variety of races to choose from from a 5k up to a full marathon!  I have chosen to do the 10k and hope others will join me. All donations will help improve Sams quality of life. We would really appreciate anyone willing to help in any  way with fundraising for this wonderful wee boy who lights up the world around him.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will help us on our fundraising journey for Sam. This page has been set up for any fundraising events that are held for Sam in the future.

With love and huge thanks x
