"Cat Got Your Tongue" Idiom Series

Donation protected

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to check out my project. It means the world to me to have so many people supporting me and my artwork.

If you don't know me personally, I'm a photography student at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. I plan on graduating in the fall of 2014 with a BFA in Arts and Visual Technology. This campaign is to fund my senior photography project that I'll be working on throughout the fall semester.

If you know me personally, you know how much photography is a part of my life. You may also know how I take my photography projects very seriously. This is one of them. This project has evolved from a final book project for an Intro to Digital Photography class I took my first semester at GMU two years ago. During the production of the series, my grandmother was very sick and passed away within the same month of this project being due. I wasn't able to put forth all of the effort I would have liked to devote to this project, which is why I plan on revisiting the concept.

This series is comprised of photographs as visual representations of idioms. If you're unfamiliar with what an idiom is, it's this crazy grammatical hullabaloo, mainly used in the English language, and is defined as a group of words whose meaning cannot be predicted from the meanings of the constituent words. For example, to "kick the bucket" certainly doesn't mean to figuratively kick a bucket, and "the last straw" has absolutely nothing to do with how many straws are left. This photo series will challenge these idioms as their literal counterparts, and forces the viewer to be face to face with the cliche.

Unfortunately, funding this project is going to be the biggest hurdle. I will be printing these photographs 16x20", to actively engage the viewer and challenge their understanding of their language and themselves. I want the viewer to walk into the exhibition space and be confused as to how each image connects with the others... until they get it. Along with the prints, I'll need to gain funding for framing as well.

I also have chosen to provide rewards for my gracious contributors, hoping to persuade an interest in following this project if it evolves further after this exhibition.

Here is the approximate cost breakdown:

Prints: $250.00+

Framing: $300.00

Hardware: $200.00

Fulfilling Rewards: $400.00+

Purchasing/Renting Props: $100.00+

Whether you feel inclined to donate or not, I appreciate the support. And even if you aren't capable of donating, please please PLEASE share this project page with your family and friends. This campaign will not succeed unless you share via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, email, send smoke signals, whatever, just share please! That's quite a donation in itself. Thank you so much!!!
