Stephen's Journey: Cancer and Financial Strain
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Stephen Rickert.
This is really difficult for me to ask for help, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After radioactive seed implants, it seemed to be under control. However, this past year, I was diagnosed with liver cancer. Some treatments left me fatigued and out of work. The folks where I work tried to give me as much work as I could handle. This, however, did not get the work done. They, understandably, had to get the work done, so they had to find help elsewhere.
I haven't worked a full week in three months, and for two months, I didn't work at all because of my health. My visits to the VA are numerous, and it's an hour's drive from my house. Oftentimes, I have to find a driver because they won't let me drive if I've been sedated. This in itself is difficult because I'm not from the town I live in; therefore, I have a hard time finding a driver. My three children live out of my town, and they have their own lives to lead.
Currently, I have been out of work for four months and counting. The help I am seeking is for the costs of living and the help on my monthly expenditures. I am behind in rent and all utility bills. The money used will go towards this, along with fuel for my truck to get to appointments and occasionally work. There are still tests to be done, i.e., MRIs, echograms, and more. When they decide on a treatment, then the fun really begins.
If there is anyone or any cause that can help me keep a roof over my head and food on the table, it would be greatly appreciated. I am a Marine Corps Veteran, but the VA has limited resources.
I thank you in advance, and may God bless you all.
