Stephanie's Race Against ALS

Stephanie Hall (née Christiansen) is a 28-year-old Mother of 3 beautiful children. On October 17th, 2017 she and her family received the devastating news that Stephanie has ALS. ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) is a motor neuron disease that destroys the links to the nervous system. This disease will eventually impact her ability to walk, speak, eat and breath. There is currently no cure; however, Stephanie is under the care of a great team of specialists. They understand the need to plan for the worst, yet they are hoping and praying for the best. Right now, living one day at a time is the only way to find comfort in this diagnosis.
Stephanie was born and raised in Calgary, AB and moved to Ottawa, ON with her parents, Pete and Kari Christiansen along with her siblings, Samantha and Dylan. She married Nick Hall from Osgoode, ON in the fall of 2015. Together they have 3 children, Riley (6), Caden (6), and Hunter (4). They purchased their dream home in Smiths Falls, ON but because of the recent mobility issues Stephanie is experiencing, they have made the hard decision to move into Stephanie’s parents home in Osgoode. Nick is working tirelessly to maintain his income as the sole bread earner in the family. He will need to continue to do so in order to simply make ends meet during this time. Her new medications are expected to cost upwards of over $1000 per month and are not covered under any health insurance programs.
We have started this GoFundMe account in hopes of fulfilling two goals:
1- The main goal is to help with the immediate and long-term financial burdens their family will face.
2- The secondary goal is to fulfill her dream to bring her children to Disney World.
While the ALS Society has so far been a blessing, there are currently no Canadian organizations that grant wishes for adult ALS patients.
At this early stage, it is hard to forecast Stephanie’s needs. She may require such things as a customized wheelchair, better accessibility into the home (requiring renovations), caregivers for her, as well as help with the children, just to name a few. We want to lift the weight of the extra financial burdens off of her husband, Nick. Our hope is that Nick would be able to take time off when required to spend time with both his wife and children. Nick is a hard worker and a loving supportive husband. His parents, Perry and Carole Hall (of Osgoode) have been, and will continue to love and support their son and daughter-in-law. Stephanie’s parents, Pete and Kari have lovingly made every accommodation possible in order to ease this burden on their daughter and her family.

Stephanie a la maladie de Lou Gehrid (SLA). Il s’agit d’une maladie neurodégénérative des motoneurones. Cette maladie aura un impact sur sa capacité à marcher, parler et éventuellement respirer. Aucun remède n’existe, mais elle est entre les mains d’une équipe de spécialistes. La famille comprend qu’ils doivent planifier pour le pire, mais ils espèrent le meilleur. En ce moment, c’est une journée à la fois.
Stephanie est née a Calgary, Alberta et vit maintenant à Ottawa, Ontario, entourée de ses parents, Pete et Kari Christiansen, de son frère Dylan et de sa sœur Samantha. Elle a marié Nick Hall, résident de Osgoode, Ontario, à l’automne 2015. Ensemble, ils ont 3 enfants, Riley, 6 ans, Caden, 6 ans et Hunter, 4 ans. Ils avaient acheté leur maison de rêve a Smith Falls, Ontario, mais ayant déjà de la difficulté à se déplacer, ils ont du prendre une décision très difficile : quitter ce domicile et aménager chez les parent de Stephanie à Osgoode. Nick travail sans répit afin de seulement pouvoir payer le stricte nécessaire. Il devra continuer à travailler sans relâche évidemment. Les médicament de Stephanie coûtent plus de $1000 par mois et ne sont pas couverts par aucune assurance.
Nous avons établie cette levée de fonds afin de réaliser 2 buts :
1- Le but principal est de leur venir en aide financièrement, à court et à long terme.
2- Le second but est de réaliser le rêve de Stephanie; aller à Disney avec ses enfants, pour leurs dernières vacances en famille.
La Société canadienne de la sclérose latérale amyotrophique aidera la famille, mais aucune fondation canadienne ne réalise des rêves pour des adultes soufrant de SAL.
Ils est difficile pour nous de prévoir les besoins futures de Stephanie. Elle aura éventuellement besoin d’une chaise roulante, de rampes d’accès, la maison devra être rénovée et équipée spécialement pour ça. Nous voulons soulager la famille de cette pression financière qu'apporte un diagnostic de cette ampleur. Notre souhait est simple, que Nick soit capable de travailler moins afin d’accompagner Stephanie à ses nombreux rendez-vous médicaux. Les parent de Nick, Carole et Perry Hall, continuent aussi à offrir leur support pour leur fils et leur bru, ainsi qu’à leurs petits-enfants. Ses parents, Pete et Kari Christiansen, ont ouvert leur maison afin de leur venir en aide.
